Body Contouring Fort Worth

Body ContouringOur bodies change over time, whether we like it or not. These changes can adversely affect our body image and self-confidence. New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive surgery can help you achieve the look you want. Eating healthy and exercising are always important habits to have, but aren’t the only tools available. At New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we offer several cosmetic services in Dallas and Fort Worth, TX, to help reshape your body and give you a positive body shape and image.

Whether you’ve experienced major weight loss through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery, you most likely have excess sagging skin around your face, neck, upper arms, breast, abdomen, buttocks, and/or thighs. Skin loses its elasticity when it’s been stretched to accommodate the excess weight. When that weight comes off, the once-stretched skin is left sagging and no amount of diet or exercise will make it go away. This sagging skin can make your body contour appear irregular and unshapely. People with extra folds of skin can develop rashes that can be extremely bothersome. At New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we will help restore your body to a more flattering contour.

Most patients seeking body contouring procedures will choose to undergo multiple operations performed in stages. Some of these procedures include Face and Neck Lift, Arm Lift, Breast Lift, Inner Thigh Lift, and Lower Body Lift.

Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover usually consists of a customized procedure for the abdomen and a customized procedure for the breasts. Women gain weight during pregnancy, and as your pregnancy progresses and your baby grows, you have stretching of the abdominal muscles which can lead to weakness. You also have stretching of the overlying skin which can lead to excess skin or stretch marks. Some patients also have localized fat deposits. You want to be at a stable weight after pregnancy before you have any mommy makeover procedures done. You also want to make sure that you are not breastfeeding if you are planning on having a breast procedure. If you are planning a future pregnancy, you may want to wait until you are finished having children before you have your mommy makeover.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure performed to remove unwanted fat deposits from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, hips, back, bra line, arms, thighs, etc. It is performed with the use of small cannulas that are inserted under the skin via small poke holes. It is not a weight loss procedure. If you are overweight, you should lose weight prior to having liposuction performed. You should be at a stable weight for at least 3-6 months before you have this procedure done. If you have excess skin and fat, liposuction alone is not the right procedure for you. You may need an abdominoplasty, arm lift, thigh lift, etc. This is one of the most common procedures performed by both men and women. The fat that is removed from one area can be transferred to other areas. Dr. Lovelace will perform a personal consultation with you to determine which procedure is right for you.

Gluteal Augmentation

Men and women are unhappy with their buttock for a variety of reasons. Some people feel that they are too saggy. In many cases this is seen in individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight. In this case this individual may need a buttock lift. A buttock lift is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the hips, outer thighs, back, and buttocks. This tissue can either be removed completely, or used to augment the buttock to give more fullness. A buttock lift is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Overweight individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery until they have reached a stable weight. If you don’t have sagging, but would just like more volume to your back side you may want a Brazilian butt lift. This is where your own fat is transferred from other areas of your body to your buttock. If you don’t have enough fat in other areas of your body to place in your buttock you may need a gluteal implant (gluteal augmentation). There are different surgical approaches to each of these procedures.

Body Contouring

For patients, both women and men, wanting a bit of body contouring here and there, liposuction may be the answer. The liposuction procedure involves removing pockets of body fat from under the skin using a vacuum-like instrument. Liposuction is not intended for removal of massive amounts of fat. A good candidate for liposuction is one who is in good physical shape, of normal weight, has healthy elastic skin but just has certain areas of stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to traditional weight loss through diet and exercise. The most common “trouble areas” are thighs, abdomen, flanks or “love handles”, upper arms, under the chin.

Tummy Tuck

One of the most-performed plastic surgery procedures, the tummy tuck, helps give patients seeking firmer, flatter abdomens the smooth profile they desire. At New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we are helping patients achieve their desired body shape. During a tummy tuck, excess fat and skin are removed from the lower abdomen along with surgically tightening the underlying weakened and/or separated muscles. This also involves bringing the belly button out through a new incision. The tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure. It is intended for patients who have lost muscle tone and have excess skin from pregnancy, aging, significant weight loss, or prior surgery that can’t be improved with diet and exercise.

Arm Lift

One of the most noticeable areas of the body affected by weight loss or aging is the skin on our upper arms. During an arm lift procedure, excess skin and tissue are removed and the arm is contoured to create a more pleasing shape. If you are self-conscious about your flabby, saggy upper arms, New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery can help give you the confidence to wear the tank tops, sleeveless dresses and bathing suits you’ve been wanting to.

Thigh Lift

If you ask women what part of their body they’d most like to change, chances are you’ll get the same answer from the majority of them – my thighs. Dreaded cellulite, dimples, and loose skin keep us from feeling comfortable in shorts and bathing suits. For some, it’s not just a matter of appearance. Excess skin on the inner thighs rub together causing skin irritation and even sores. This is why many people choose to have plastic surgery to correct what diet and exercise aren’t able to. New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offer thigh lift surgery to people wanting smoother, firmer thighs. Excess skin, and some fat, is removed and the remaining skin is lifted and tightened, giving patients a better profile.

Skin Grafting

New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery performs skin grafting procedures to treat patients who have extensive wounds, trauma, burns, or areas of damaged skin. The process of skin grafting involves removing a layer or partial layer of skin from a healthy part of the patient’s body and applying it to the damaged area. With time, this new layer of skin will heal over and protect the affected area.

Burns

At New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we treat first, second, and third-degree burns. These burns may be treated with local wound care, skin grafts, flaps, and over time may need secondary procedures. The release of contractures can help improve function and produce a better aesthetic result.

Acute Hand Injuries

These patients are usually initially seen and evaluated in the ER, and the surgeries are usually done in the OR. These can be a variety of injuries including tendon lacerations, fractures, vascular or nerve injuries, or soft tissue injuries.

Carpal Tunnel Release

For patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome who have tried conservative management to relieve pain with no results, New Leaf Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers carpal tunnel release surgery. The median nerve as well as multiple flexor tendons pass through a narrow tunnel in the wrist which is restricted by a thick ligament. This tunnel is called the carpal tunnel. When this ligament causes compression and injury to the underlying nerve it can be released by a very small incision.

This will result in improvement of systems, partial resolution of symptoms, or prevent further progression of the disease.

Dupuytrens Disease

This is a disease process that causes the fascia in the hands and fingers to contract and form cords. This can cause firm, painful nodules in the palm, or even contract pulling on the fingers. This makes it difficult or impossible to extend the finger completely causing difficulty placing the hand flat on a table, putting it in your pocket, and can make it difficult to grasp objects. This is usually treated with outpatient surgery.

Trigger Fingers

The human hand is a very complex part of the body. While the task of flexing a finger might seem quite simple, there are numerous tendons at work helping us accomplish our daily tasks. Trigger finger occurs when an irritated tendon thickens, making it difficult to glide through the pulleys that surround it. As the tendon becomes more irritated, the tunnel in which passes also becomes irritated. All of this causes decreased motion in the affected finger, causing it to catch in a bent position and pop or snap when it’s opened. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, a steroid injection can be the solution for trigger finger. Injections are done in the clinic, and surgery is done as an outpatient.
